control and lack of control(openning the kiln is always a treat)

This picture was inspired by one that my friend Fax gave to Cari and me for our wedding. It has about 5 layers of mother of pearl on the flower, each layer requiring a separate luster firing.
Created customized fireplace surround with handmade art tiles, designed to incorporate the clients intrests and to coordinate with the homes architechture. Resulting in a sculpted art piece utilizing extreme base relief tiles which reflect the customers personal style. I the other art in the picture is part of there colletion, I'm not sure who did those.
This was my first time trying to make a persian cat, the ladies who commisioned this fireplace had about 6 or 7 persian cats when I made this fire place.
